GROUP INTERACTION QUESTIONS:
1) Think of a person you know who is not a believer in Jesus. Do you think they would believe in Christ if they “had”
more evidence? What are the signs of a hard and rebellious heart?
2) Why is it important for us to emphasize that God has provided objective proof that Jesus is the Son of God and
not just our subjective testimony of a changed life? (Stephen J. Cole).
3) In the words of Spurgeon, it is not the lack of evidence that keeps people from believing, the problem is with the
sinful and unbelieving heart. Here are some passages to mediate on regarding the abundant witnesses God has
provided:
· Creation (Psalm 19:1-6; Romans 1:19-20)
· Conscience (Romans 2:15-16)
· Christ (Hebrews 1:1-2)
· Canon of Scripture (Psalm 19:7-11; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; John 5:39-47)
Additional witnesses:
· Jesus’ baptism by water (Matthew 3:13-17)
· Jesus’ baptism by blood (Matthew 27; Mark 15:39). All the events surrounding the crucifixion—visible
darkness over the land, the earthquake, the breaking of the veil in the Temple from top to bottom, the saints
who were physically resurrected after Jesus’ death (Matthew 27:52-23).
· The Holy Spirit (John 15:26; Acts 5:32)
· The apostles (1 John 1:1-4; 2 Peter 1:16-17)
· All those who witnessed the risen Jesus (Acts 1:3; 1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
· John the Baptist (John 1:6-8; 5:33-35)
· Jesus’ works and miracles (John 5:36)
· A transformed life (Revelation 12:11)
4) How important is having the assurance of salvation? What happens if you lack the assurance of your salvation?
What should a person do who lacks it? (Stephen J. Cole).
